Mod idea: Bloody yanderes

I'm currently working on the dialogue lines for the "Yandere" personality. Obviously she tends to become a bit neurotic when her lover is interacting with different girls. But that could become a bit dull if it's just some dialogue without any real threat behind it. I was thinking it could be interesting to add some elements to the game that'd make her more than just talk.

I have no idea if or when I'm going to actually make this mod... But I'd love to hear your ideas, since there are still a few missing pieces to the puzzle.

Yanderes are scary
Under certain conditions, a yandere is able to manipulate, exhaust, injure or even kill another girl.

  • A yandere may try to hurt her rivals.
    • Chance that this happens has escalating odds (0% for the first week, but higher and higher the longer that they remain rivals)
    • The player may encourage or discourage this behavior through the "Getting along with other girls" chat option. (If you encourage the rivalry here, it'll very quickly escalate the odds and severity of her actions. Discouraging the rivalry obviously stops the threat if succesful)
  • A yandere may try to hurt any girl with a significantly higher love value than her (yandere's love + 50)
  • A yandere may try to hurt any girl that the player has recently punished.
  • A yandere may try to hurt (or kidnap?) free girls that the player has interacted with.
  • If the player is evil, chances of a yandere acting out should be significantly higher

Mechanics of yandere's bullying
A yandere's actions should be something ordinary players would generally want to avoid, but with a 'silver lining' that is especially useful for "Evil" players (it enables an otherwise niche playstyle)

  • Manipulating: Decreases love of target
  • Namecalling: Decreases energy/mood of target? (needs an upside, TBD) - or maybe it's just some vitriolic dialogue lines for flavor?
  • Threatening: Increases fear of target
  • Fighting/Injuring: Inflicts hurt status on target or on yandere for X days (needs an upside, TBD)
  • Killing: Target is removed from the game (needs a significant upside, TBD - maybe she replaces the girl with a new recruit of similar value?)

i think the "killing" part would need a mod on a waaaay bigger scale than this to really feel properly worked into the game.  like, a whole 'evil route' expansion with assassinations, kidnappings, paying off the guards, etc.

also, i'd like to suggest having the 'bloody yandere' be a separate flag from the 'yandere' personality, with different personalities having different % chance of getting the flag.  yanderes having the highest at maybe, idk, 60-70%? other personalities might have it at only 15% or 0%, like "Helper" and "Holy" probably wouldn't make sense to get the flag but seeing 'cold' or 'princess' have it could be interesting

maybe also additional events where the yandere tries to force herself onto you during the night, letting you respond in various ways (letting her, stopping her with force or magic, or reversing the situation) to change her fear or love, and some double-edged interactions with customers.  like, maybe she has a chance to get violent with a customer, higher chance if she's whoring than if she's working a job, maybe a drop in brothel and girl rep but in exchange you get additional gold from the guy's pockets?  not entirely sure how the balance would work out for that

could also do 2 "types" of yandere.  one that's more possessive and will lash out at ones you seem to like more, one that's more...  pro-harem, and will try to get other girls to like you even more, and focuses on bullying girls that dislike you instead?  maybe having the option to get her help kidnapping free girls instead of giving them flowers, or just help w/ training other girls

Hmm, if this is lifted over to multiple personalities rather than just Yandere, I would consider redesigning the whole thing to focus much more on positive vibes and become a "friendship & rivalry expansion". Much more of a focus on girls complementing each other, playing together, getting into trouble together, etc. But obviously with more personalities you kinda have to write the dialogue/events 23 times, so it becomes a huge undertaking.

I don't mind introducing a challenging mechanic for one personality (similar to the Masochist), but as soon as you add it to many personalities, you're basically telling the player that this is an unavoidable hassle you'll have to deal with, even if you don't want to.

I don't think killings would happen very often if at all, but I think the threat of it being a remote possibility is a potent weapon to flesh out the yandere personality. One kill over the course of an entire playthrough would already have an enormous impact. Ofcourse it should have some foreshadowing and ways to prevent it, that's true. But to some extent a yandere should be unpredictable and uncontrollable.

Honestly, the threat of killings is a potent weapon to get me to never play with one of them.   Or to never use the mod itself.   No way would I want to risk the loss of one of the girls.   Just an "interesting character twist" is no way near enough of a reward to take even the slightest risk of that.  Not sure if there exists such a reward that would be worth the risk.  Losing a girl is a fast track to finding the best recent save to revert to.  That's a penalty that I would never be interested in paying.  Sorry.

I mostly agree with that. It certainly wouldn't be of any benefit to a regular playstyle. Instead it would only add more challenges and setbacks to it. If that's not what you're looking for in BK, fair enough.

I would personally probably also start avoiding yanderes on non-evil playthroughs, just like how I am already avoiding masochists now.

yeah, i think the threat of killing isn't worth the inclusion.  there's other ways to get that unpredictability to the girl that still give the same kinda vibes.  looking at the Kylar events from Degrees of Lewdity wouldn't be a bad place to look for inspiration.  as for applying it to other personalities, in my head, the way it'd work would just be when the flag is active on a girl, they mostly use the dialogue of their main personality but occasionally a "yandere" personality line slips in, or something unique to let the player know the flag is active when you're talking to her so you don't have to have entire versions of every personality that's been yandere-fied.  like at the end of some lines, maybe she has a creepy laugh or something.

as for the possibility of expanding the scope to be an overhaul to girl-to-girl interactions, you could start by just instead of having unique lines for every personality, chop them up into 4 to 6 categories initially to write dialogue for at first then expand later down the line.  i definitely have a lot of ideas for that kind of stuff, like i think expanding town encounters to involve free girls you've made friends with and the girls working at your brothels would be great.  stuff like encountering the girls while they're on an errand for Sill or grocery shopping, maybe meeting 2 girls who are friends out on a date if they both have the same day off.  more stuff like the beach events already in the game that take advantage of the "Date" or "Party" tags in the extended tag set.

maybe like, "Party Girl" (Superficial, Bimbo, Easy), "Creepy Girl" (Pervert, Yandere, Creep, Masochist), "Nice Girl" (Sweet, Meek, Loyal, Helper), "Prude Girl" (Rebel, Prude, Repressed, Stubborn), and "Calculating Girl" (Nerd, Cold, Schemer), "Noble Girl" (Tsundere, Princess, Class Prez).  just as an example, i doubt however you'd break them down would end up exactly like that.  just a suggestion to reduce the number of event versions you have to write out at first if you go down that route.

One slave killing another as a mechanic seems pretty extreme. It would make me want to have some Jack-o-nine-style execution options for dispensing justice to the murderer, which would alter the spirit of the game considerably. Although maybe there are players who want to have such things. If it is included, I think it would be good to be able to switch it off.

On the other hand, Yandere hurting another girl and putting her on sick leave, like when they're attacked by some hooligan customer or a tentacle monster, would seem like it is within the established mechanics pretty well.

As was discussed in the old forum, I've been working under the assumption that once the community dialogue project is complete, we would try and write one unique brothel/training event for each personality... I do have some ideas for 'my girls' (in fact, I removed some text from Helper's origin story, which had grown too long, to serve as the basis of an interactive event for her).

I do like your idea of having events, which would only apply for some personalities... and your divisions are very close to how I would divide them (although I tend to think of Class Prez and Nerd as forming a group together). IMO the Archetypes do not necessarily correspond with, how the girls would behave on a night out in town (for example, "very idealist" in Easy manifests in her belief that it is not fair to turn down a guy who wants pussy, which is very different to the Nerd's or Loyal's idealism.)

In general, I do like brothel/training events and ones where you bump into girls around town, such as the beach ones. I would love to have more of them. Many more.  ;D  Like _neronero said, having completely unique dialogue for each personality is a big ask, as everything you write will need to multiplied by 23. It would be a good solution to have events, which would only trigger with certain personalities ... for example, a party in the town event, which would trigger with the 'party girls' you mention.

I'm not sure these need to be fixed groupings though. For example, maybe you could have an event where you find Nerd, Class Prez or Loyal reading the Zan-equivalent of Kama Sutra to get better at their work. Then maybe you could have a 'calculating' event, in which Nerd would group with Schemer and Cold (perhaps the girl could come up with some scheme for maximising how to get most gold from customer, or similar). So, rather than have another level of fixed groupings, you could just specify, which personalities an event applies to. Basically just write an event, and tag with all the personalities who could engage in such behaviour.

I'm not sure, how easy it is to have events involving both brothel girls and free girls you've talked to though. When I start writing the unique events for my five, I've been planning to start very simple...

There's not enough time in the day to commit to every idea ;D

Might not be such a bad idea to chop this yandere thing into bits that could become seperate little events for a personality-event-pack. If it ever comes to that.

Spoiler
Gossiping/Manipulating: (Does one of two things: Decreases love of target towards MC, or initiates a rivalry between target and secondary target)
Bimbo, Schemer

Namecalling: Frequent (weekly?) flavor-dialogue to signify an ongoing rivalry.
If no rivalry exists and girl is very dom, she has a small chance to initiate a rivalry. If girl is punished afterwards, that rivalry immediately ends.
Generic
Side note: There's actually already some unused code in the game about "arguing with a rival" as a punishable event

Threatening: May only trigger during a rivalry - Increases fear of target
Rebel, Yandere, Creep, Stubborn

Fighting/Injuring: May only trigger during a rivalry that has reached boiling point. In other words, the MC has brought this upon himself by letting a rivalry simmer for several months - Inflicts hurt status on girl or target for X days
Rebel, Schemer, Yandere

Murder/Mysterious disappearances: Optional mod/event for insane people. Disabled by default.
Yandere

Pimping: Tricks a clueless free girl into signing a slave-contract with the brothel ('positive' event to counterbalance some of the shit-stirring that these personalities do. Maybe it only triggers after she feels guilty for beating her rival to a pulp at least once?)
Rebel, Schemer, Yandere
