The picture pack issue needs to be fed back to @PANDA129, but he's still working on the translation at the moment, so I don't think he'll have much time to do a remake of the picture pack anytime soon.

It's only supposed to be pornographic, it shouldn't be tied to politics, even if it's just the last name, and I'm afraid that's going to cause a lot of offense.



有关翻译的问题和图包问题我之前有跟小熊猫说过,之前大部分物品地名人名等,基本都是按照他个人翻译习惯翻译的,这导致有许多地方都跟原版对不上。
现在的翻译跟原版对上了,但是这跟他图包有很大出入,因为他之前翻译的时候有部分情况是按照他自己图包按图翻译的。
还有就是,既然是两个中国人在讨论中文汉化问题,那理应使用中文问答,如果是因为国外论坛单用中文不好,那可以中英双语,我相信他们会理解的。 :)

Wouldn't it make more sense to use the Ren'Py translation system more fully? Instead of translating 'Tonic' to '营养品', use '__("Tonic")' and a translation substitution file?

Might take some effort to set it up, but makes things less susceptible to language-based errors.

Probably takes a not-insignificant amount of extra effort, though.
And with strange aeons even death may die...

如果能够使用'.cnname()'这样形式来翻译的话,那些在对话里使用的[act]、[thing]、[girl.job]、[skill]...我就都能翻译到了。
目前一些对话里带有[skill]的句子,我都是给他替换成[cntext],然后去到代码那里添加一段来进行翻译。

If it could be translated using a form like '.cnname()', those [act], [thing], [girl.job], [skill] used in the dialog... I'll be able to translate them all.
Currently some of the sentences with [skill] in the dialog, I'm replacing it with [cntext] for him and then going to the code and adding a paragraph to translate it.

As I said, Ren'Py has already solved this problem for you. There's no need for an extra cnname() function. Use "__('Tonic')", include a translation for 'Tonic' in Chinese in (I think?) an "old: ..., new: ..." file with language specified, set the current language to Chinese and that should be it.

There are several translation mechanics in Ren'Py, read up on what they can do and which fits what situation best.



If you really want things to have specific names that are not run through the translation system, one way would be to give more descriptive properties like 'eng_name' and 'cn_name', use something like 'persistent.language' to store which language is active, and then use queries like 'item["%s_name"%persistent.language]'.
And with strange aeons even death may die...

you know shouldn't the title of this thread be in chinese or at least include chinese? since the intended audience that will want the chinese translation will most likely read... chinese>?

I feel as if us english readers don't need to know the title of the thread LOL

Well, I just tried "__('Cimerian scrap')" and I added old "Cimerian scrap" new "席米亚科技废料" to the replacement file.
When I went into the game I noticed that the item names did change, but there was a problem when I typed this code using the console

I changed the '__(' to '_(' and things seemed to work just fine. But when typing out that code, it shows 'Cimerian scrap' instead of '席米亚科技废料'
Maybe I should add '_()' inside this code as well?

WE are not only doing traslation work.In fact we do also fix original game code's bug and Chinese translation version's bug.So use both CN and EN language to communicate is helpful to make the game better.

Now we are doing Optimization work before Goldo's public new version.There are many wrongs based on the first machine translation code. ToT

But that's not my business,I'm just a interpreter not a Programmer. LOL

Yes, it changed the internal name, since it's literally '__("Cimerian scrap")'. You can use this instead:
call receive_item(item_dict[__("Cimerian scrap")], ...

'__()' vs '_()': the second doesn't immediately translate whatever the result is, but just adds it to the translation file if you use Ren'Py's translation-generation function.



Edit: You can also add both, say, 'Tonic' and 'tonic' to the translation file and remove '__(...)' from the item definition. The effect is about the same.

I'm not sure the current system can retain internal English item names, but display Chinese names in-game. Not without separating an object's name and item_dict key, at least.
