Advertising SBC and AVIF

Hi,

It's been a while! :) Today, I've released the game I've been working on (for way too long), called "SimBrothel C". (Link to thread)

I'd like to advertise here because the game does not only reuse the tagging system of BrothelKing, but even allows you to directly reference your girls-directory.
Basically, you only have to add the path to your girls-directory to the "start.bat" file, and the game will seamlessly use the images without you having to maintain two copies of the same files.

I hope some of you will give it a try. :)

The second reason I am posting is to advertise the new AVIF image format. Basically, AVIF is another huge improvement for image storage, I'd say at least as much as WebP was over JPG.
BrothelKing can very easily be made to accept AVIF, since newer versions of Renpy already support it. Basically, you only have to add "AVIF" to the list of accepted file types, and it works right away.

I've been working on a new version of the PictureNamer/TaggingTool, which will be based on a recent version of Renpy and support AVIF as well. With that, I hope our community can gradually adopt this new fantastic image format. I hope to have a first version ready beginning of January.

Well, that's it. Sorry for being out of touch.  :-[  Now that this release is finally out of the way, I'm looking forward to spend more time on BrothelKing again as well, especially trying out the new features of the recent release. I also have girlpacks for Asagi Igawa, Ningguang and Tharja coming up, so you can look forward to that. :) You can actually find a first version of these packs in my new game, the pack-quality should be around B+ (*Hint Hint* ;))

Hey, look who's back!!!  ;D

I'll be sure to give your game a spin as soon as I can, it's really cool that you're using the same tagging foundation as BK as it will immediately provide your game with a good amount of working packs.

I didn't know about AVIF, I'm really clueless about such things, if people can provide us with some feedback about whether they want to make that move it'd be good.
Maker of BK. Looking for the latest patch for BK 0.2? The link doesn't change, so bookmark it!

Hi Goldo! :)

It's been a while. I feel a little sorry for the long silence, but I had a busy phase in private life and also wanted to focus on getting this game released.

I am very glad that I reused your tagging system. The overlap is really great (also showcasing that you designed a very flexible system). Not only did I avoid having to put a lot of time into designing another system (and probably into pointless conversions back and forth), it even means that there are hundreds of packs available from the start. Also means I don't have to duplicate the images on my harddrive. It really was a decision with many great upsides and practically no downsides.
Really, thank you very much. :)

I used a different (point-based) approach for writing the queries, which gives me some added flexibility and helps integrating your system.
I think I mentioned it to you at some point in the past, maybe you want to take a look at it now that its finished. I could potentially convert it into BK, although I think it would always have to coexist with the other query system (unless you want to rewrite everything), and potentially also opens some questions about calculating the pack score.
For now, I assume this is not high on your priority list. Unless you ran into some limitations recently, it probably makes more sense for you to continue with the query system you know by heart by now.

Regarding AVIF, I definitely will publish my future girlpacks in the new format. The only downside I see is that it is incompatible with BK 0.2, but I don't think that's a big issue. Worst case is that the pack back gets converted back to WebP if someone really wants to play the old version. The way BK is being developed though, I am sure most people have made the switch to 0.3 by now.

I'm almost done with an upgraded version of the tagging tool. Having to use the old one was indeed getting to be pain in the behind. (basically, I converted to AVIF only when the girlpack was done, as at that point, it basically becomes incompatible with the tagging tool.)

Anyway, thanks for the welcome, it's good to be back. :) Let me know if there's anything where I can provide some assistance with BK.
